It would be easy to say that Dr. Strupp simply does great comprehensive cosmetic and restorative dentistry -- but what he provides is much more than just that. The primary service provided in our office is satisfaction - satisfaction of health without the threat of continued infectious disease caused by neglect or the treatment rendered. Such oral infections have been correlated to heart attack and stroke. Each patient is treated in a comprehensive manner to eliminate all dental infections so they have a totally healthy oral condition that cannot negatively affect their general health. This involves teaching the patient the preventive dentistry procedures required to make and keep a healthy mouth and restoring the teeth to perfection in cosmetics, phonetics and function.
Conservative partial coverage all-porcelain restorations and gold inlays and onlays that are not buried deep in the gum tissue so as to cause infection, are the primary materials used in doing conservative restorative dentistry. Such restorations are finished above the gum line so there is no potential to cause gum infections. In addition to avoiding infections the use of partial coverage restorations instead of full crowns preserves a large amount of tooth structure since all that is removed for the restoration is diseased or fractured tooth. Gold is the best choice for restorations that are required where cosmetic concerns do not exist. If the issue is cosmetics then porcelain restorations will provide the best possible outcome. All-porcelain restorations look exactly like natural teeth only without flaws. Gold restorations look gold but they never break and if the restoration is an onlay, it makes the tooth 6 times stronger than a natural tooth.
Porcelain to gold crowns are used when only minimal cosmetic needs exist and the tooth already has been crowned. Porcelain to gold crowns are only mildly cosmetic unless the margin of the crown is finished under the gum tissue. Margins of crowns finished under the gum line cause tissue infections and as such are a threat to oral and general health. If the cosmetic need is extremely critical to the patient, porcelain to gold is a very poor choice because of the need to sacrifice biology for the sake of cosmetics.
Porcelain to gold is used to replace teeth that are missing with fixed bridges. However, implants provide a far more predictable and less invasive approach to replacing missing teeth. Cosmetic issues occur at the gum line with porcelain to gold unless the restoration is placed under the gum line where it causes unwanted tissue problems. When the margin is placed where it can be seen it appears gray and not cosmetic.
In addition, bonded tooth-colored fillings are also used where indicated. These restorations are done in lieu of mercury-silver restorations that Dr. Strupp has not done since 1980 because of the inferior properties and potential health risks of mercury-silver.
In summary, Dr. Strupp provides every kind of restorative care known in dentistry (except mercury-silver). The key to his treatment is not just a beautiful smile. It is the creation and maintenance of health for a lifetime.
